Internship

Hi guys and girls,
I am currently working as an intern in Shah Alam, i am lucky that i manage to get this internship because being a 1st year student normally nobody employ 1st year students. But anyway for those who are taking engineering courses i think experience in the engineering field do count, just wanted to share with you guys what i do in this company.
firstly this company deals with heat exchangers, the core business is chemical cleaning of heat exchangers but besides that we design and fabricate heat exchangers too. This company is actually handling most of the power plants for TNB and also the oil rigs for petronas. Being a chemical engineer it is nothing like what you've studied in books..For engineers who knows heat transfer and what is a carnot cycle and rankine cycle this is a good example, the other day i was assigned to design a surface condenser but i tried applying what i've studied in uni but i couldn't meet the requirement for the international standards. Speaking of standards, as an engineer everything you design or any decision made will be govern by international standards. Another thing i learnt is that you really need to multitask a lot because tenders and clients fax their orders and need to attend to it there and then so being able to understand is one thing but also need to do it quick, because tenders do not come one by one, i've faced 5 at once and it was hell.. so for future chemical engineers please prepare yourself for travelling and i mean a lot of em, due to the on site projects where you need to get your hands dirty, you need to travel to the factory, plant or even oil platform.
Ok anyway one last thing about internship for those professional courses, if you were to apply for intership and you get it...PLease remember to log all your progress and your job scope as it is a record to be attached to your resume and get an income boost...
Until next time...
Cheers from
Phon~

Speaking of Chem Eng, I've a friend who's now doing it in the US. When he returned to KL for summer break last year, he interned at a waste treatment company.

The job involved staring at shit (literally) and seeing if the treatment being tested had any effect.
